How do you guys feel about Kobalt tools versus craftsman tools. I havent heard much about them, all I know is they have a life time warrenty on them. Im going to need a 'starter' tool set soon and was just wondering if any of you guys have used them and if they compare to craftsman when it comes to reliabilty. Im just starting out, thats why Im asking. When I get more money, Im going to get a few snap on ratchets, and all my air tools will be snap on.
Other than that, craftsman for me. I'll have my tool list complete within a month, but I could use some wrenches/ratchet,socket's now.
Anyways, let me know. I have a 3 size ratchet kit (1/4, 3/8, 1/2), with a i dunno a couple hundred pieces in the set. All in a nice plastic case, i use it for going to the junk yard, the pick and pull. The tools are tough. I forgot my breaker bar at home, put a pipe over my ratchet, and busted it. On the way home they gave me a knew one no questions asked.
I would rate them as good as or even better than craftsmen. On one of the jeep forums i am on, someone said one of the big guys makes them, one of the big name tool makers, and they said the ratcheting mechanism is superior to the ones found in most craftsmen. I have had craftsmen i used, and didnt abuse, and the mechanism did fail after about 10 years of hobby use. Its no big deal if you have 3 different sizes, and an adapter you can get by the rest of the day using your 1/2' driver/wrench with an adapter, and use your 3/8 sockets its not worth coming up with the major coin at this point. Some of the snap on and matco seem more ergonomic, meaning they are more fitted for the human hand, but i think craftsman has new series that sorta twists the metal, its so the fat part of the wrench goes to your palm, not the narrow edge.
That is a good compromise. Especially if money is tight. I think thats what i have, it came in a pretty decent locking bi fold case.
Though the case appears not to be shown. Its perfect for me for taking to the junk yard, and mobile jeep fixing out in the sticks. My teacher says most snap on ratchets are better than craftsman, have more teeth also, so you can make shorter turns in smaller areas. But craftsman.for the money, is a good tool.(hand tools that is) I'll get better brands when I can afford it, but ive never heard anything bad about craftsman to the point that I wouldnt buy them. There are better, but they cost a lot.
I've seen that kobalt tool box, kinda cool looking but thats too much for me to start with, Im going to get a simple roll away/chest from sears for around 400-500 total. Thanks, Im going to stop by lowers & look at their sets tomorrow and possibly pick one up. Anywhere else sell kobalt, because there isnt that big of a selection at lowes.
